I started working at Barrick Gold Headquarters (Salt Lake City) in Sept (low level clerical). Totally new to the mining industry and Corporate America (Reg nurse 20 yrs prior). Barrick presents themselves as extremely “socially and environmentally responsible”. After seeing Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”, I investigated further online, looking more specifically for CO2 emmissions. I was shocked and horrified at what I found, especially Pascua Lama. In disbelief I looked further. Over the initial shock and rage, I am now sad and afraid - and vehemently determined to help change the course of this certain catastrophe. The scope of which will require critical masses of people from all over the world and from every walk of life. I am
starting here, in Salt Lake City Utah, at the Barrick Gold USA Headquarters in my office next to Mr. Munk’s - the VP of the Corporation. I have started to formulate and plan how I can best effect a positive outcome. Starting with #1 LOW PROFILE, but not silent. They know I am a “tree-hugger” which they find amusing. And that my daughter is a human rights activist (has worked for Democracy Now and knows Amy Goodman) They find that foolhardy and a bit dangerous. What can we do? How can we help? This is as much about us as it is the people of Chile and agrentina. And as you know - TIME is crucial. Where can we get the most current info on the current status of the Pascua Lama Project?
