Public Statement from the Coordinator for the Freedom

Faced with the daily repression that we, thousands of villagers, students, native people get and resist in different aspects of our life, repression that hits us violently, we denounce the practices of the concertación government, ally of the big capital in their attempts to impose democracy as a type of government worried for the human been, when it really it bring us poverty, crack in the ghettos, assassinations of youth who try to keep their identity as a people (Matías Catrileo, Alex Lemún), build more prisons that will be filled with the thousands of children and youth without opportunities, because the prisons are not build for rich but to jail the poor people.

That’s the big success of democracy, to hide the social problems behind the bars, penalizing children of 14 years old, hiding the mapuche conflict to continue with the success trades with small families, focusing big part of the resources of the state to the social control and the vigilance. more than education, health, or other needs of the people. Who rise up the voice of protest will be quickly criminalized and and treated as mere criminals. Examples of that abound in this reality, where including in this spaces that are ours we are persecuted and branded as illegal as it happen when we must go out and put in practice survivors methods as be in the line of the market; even today you get arrested or a ticket if you buy a sopaipilla in the street.

The mechanisms of social control of the state are articulated with foreign capital and they are coordinated with the agencies of intelligence that use the democrats governments to look after their interests setting up cameras, methods of social control as the public transport that its only fast when the workers have to go to their centers of exploitation and then back to rest, to reproduce the economic system and the society of the spectacle; trying to control every aspect of our life.

We say stop to this. Because we don’t want to live of their crumbs, because we want to transform this society of misery and selfishness, that we support the hunger strike started in different prisons of the country, by political prisoners and prisoners in struggle tired of isolation, the empty possibility of study or work, the abuse and humiliation by the state throw Gendarmerie, they have resorted once again to expose their life as the only instrument of pressure to be heard.

Public Statemenet

For a long time, in the jails of Chile and Argentina, there are a important number of comrades political prisoners in hunger strike. This is the situation of:

MARCELO PATRICIO ZULUAGA SALGADO, ALBERTO OLIVARES FUENZALIDA, SERGIO VÁSQUEZ BARRIENTES: prisioners in the Penitenciaría de Santiago, Chile: in hunger strike since October 23rd of 2008.

MARCELO DOTTE, ESTEBAN HUINIGUIR: prisioners in the Cárcel de Alta Seguridad: in hunger strike since November 10th. of 2008.

MARCELO VILLAROEL, FREDDY FUENTEVILLA: prisoners in isolation cells in the unit 11 of the Cárcel de Neuquén, Argentina: in hunger strike since November 17th of 2008.

AXEL OSORIO: prisioner in the Cárcel de Alta Seguridad, in hunger strike since November 24th of 2008.

Due to the severe situation and the profound ignorance that exists of it -because of the media forces to hide the situation of the social activists and to misinform about the State police terror- we denounce that the comrades in Chilean jails are constantly harassed and tortured physically and psychologically, getting an unworthy treatment, punished constantly, and without access to the rights that a common prisoner have. In this context we demand:

1.- Reunion of all political and with a subversive past prisoners in the same section, where they can live while the rest of the time in jail, this is a demand of particular relevance, because between they exist an historical affinity that will help their day to day life as the relation with the rest of the penal population. This will mean access to workshops of work, study and academic visits, and access to other benefits between prisons that they can’t access while their are in punish centers.

2.- The end of social isolation that they are now, through enlargement of the visits of friends, close people and no direct family.

3.- Entering of mineral water, juices, elements needed to keep the hunger strike without compromising their life, this have been denied by Gendarmerie.

4.- Entering of an independent medic team to check out in detail and in a true form the health status of the political prisoners in hunger strike.

5.- Hearing with the director of national gendarmerie, Alejandro Jiménez, to explain him this exigences, right of every prisoner, but denied for them.

About the comrades prisoners in Neuquén, Argentina, they are imprisoned in isolation cells and in poor conditions, tortured and punished permanently in any time of the day and night; they have to survive a seclusion of 20 hours a day in a container of people called “buzón”; without right to been in a backyard; without access to daylight; isolated of the rest of the penal population; without any access to information of press, journeys, magazines, radio, etc.; institutions and organizations have been denied to visit them to check out the situation they are, as the International Red Cross and human rights institutions. Even more, the lawyer in charge of their defense can only visit them for 30 minutes and separately.

First of all the above, we demand that they be treated in a dignified way in the conditions of detention, while their causes are checked out, y they get political refugee in Argentina, because in Chile there are not warranties of any type for a regular process, they are persecuted and incriminated by fake proofs, invented by army fiscals, endorsed by civil fiscals and broadcasted by the media circus of the official and private press.
