This is the first time that ourwar.org gets a web award at an international level.
“As photographers, we all understand the power photographs can have in changing perspectives and affecting the outcomes of a situation. When the photographer lives in a nation that has a history of violence, uprisings, and military actions, the camera can become an activist’s tool. OurWar Collective understand this power and use it to promote a stand against the injustices they see.
No matter which side one may fall on the issues that are portrayed, it is important to realize how much of an impact each photograph can have on the right audience. When faced with poverty, social inequities, and racial conflicts, the photographer becomes a communicator who can decide what an audience sees and how it is construed. OurWar Collective share with us their views of Chile. The power of their photography is in the realization that life (and our photography) is political. What we portray can make a difference.”
